Here’s The Dish about 2Fifty Texas BBQ!
Tuesday May 28, 2024
CBS Series, The Dish – known for highlighting the relationship between food and culture, just featured 2Fifty Texas BBQ!
Watch Ed O’Keefe sit down with owners Fernando González and Debbie Portillo to talk about the inception and inspiration behind 2Fifty Texas BBQ. Spearheaded by a business trip to Austin, TX, Fernando came home with a plan to build himself a smoker. With respect to the craft and a desire to provide their daughter with opportunity, the Gonzales left El Salvador to pursue their American Dream.
Despite opening during the Covid-19 pandemic, 2Fifty found its way to success – smoking good, Texas style brisket, paired along side dishes with a Salvadorian flair. Offerings such as: Esquites, beans, mango salad, fried plantains and their “quatro leches” dessert are all inspired by the food culture in El Salvador and prepared ‘The way my mom taught me” says Debbie.
With a ‘surreal’ turnout, 2Fifty made their mark in Maryland and has since expanded into DC, opening their second location here in Mount Vernon Triangle!
