Saturday: Celebrate “On the Square” & DDOT’s Open Streets
Friday October 4, 2024
This Saturday, 7th Street NW will come alive with two unique events designed to celebrate the city and streets that make up Washington, DC.
“On the Square”:
Start your day at the DC History Center, located inside the Carnegie Library (801 K St NW) and get to know where you live! The DC History Center is taking you back to basics at its annual community day, On the Square. On Saturday, October 5 from 10am-3pm, enjoy free neighborhood walking tours, a sneak peek at its upcoming exhibit, family-friendly activities, one-day-only pop-up exhibits, a close-up look at new collection materials, and giveaways including a chance to score some MVT Bucks to use at participating retailers around Mount Vernon Triangle. Whether you’ve lived here for years, recently moved to the city, or are hosting visitors, you’ll walk away with a new understanding of the city as DC History Center takes you back to DC history basics.

Activities include free yoga classes offered on the Carnegie Library lawn, bike repair workshops at 7th & New York Avenue NW, a 9-Man Volleyball Tournament on G Street NW, ESPN Zone Presented by ESPN 630 The Sports Capitol between G & H Streets NW, live music, and more throughout the day!
Something unique to note this year is the early re-opening of 7th Street NW south of New York Avenue. Activities will end at 2pm and the roads will re-open to cars at 3pm. Everything north of NY Avenue will remain closed until 5pm.
