Quick Thinking Ensures Return of a Neighbor’s Vital Documents Just in Time for the Holidays

Our Clean Team Ambassadors also provide another valuable service to the community: finding lost items so that MVT CID staff can have these items returned safely to their owners. That was exactly the case this week when long-time Clean Team Ambassador Ronald “Mr. Brown” Jacobs (pictured middle, here) found a lost wallet containing membership cards, a Passport, and US currency on the 900 block of 3rd Street NW.
Traditional internet searches proved difficult in identifying the property’s owner, but a health insurance card that included the name of the property owner’s employer provided the valuable tip that ultimately ended up cracking the case. After a call to corporate headquarters in Austin, TX revealed an employment location in Riverdale, MD, MVT CID then elicited assistance of 2Fifty Texas BBQ owners Debbie Portillo & Fernando Gonzalez, thinking there might be a connection given Debbie & Fernando’s shared country of origin with the wallet owner’s, where the wallet was found, and the fact that the Debbie & Fernando’s other store location is near their property owner’s place of employment. And alas, within minutes of a well-timed call by Debbie, a match was made! The wallet owner’s called MVT CID staff shortly after to arrange for its retrieval the next morning just in time for the holidays. And ultimately providing yet another example of a seemingly small deed making a huge difference in the life of an area neighbor.
