MVT Spotlight: Erika Elko, [solidcore]
Thursday November 20, 2014
Erika Elko (pictured with the [solidcore] team – left to right: Alex Perrin, Meg Bradshaw, Sarah Adams, Anne Mahlum and Erika) is a personal fitness coach and VP of business development for [solidcore] as well as a yoga teacher and an avid proponent of healthy living. In this spotlight interview with the Mount Vernon Triangle CID, she gives us some insight on [solidcore], which opened at 433 Massachusetts Avenue this past year.
MVT CID: We are very excited to have [solidcore] in the Triangle; can you tell us a bit about your fitness model?
Erika: [solidcore] is a 50-minute, full body workout. We work your muscles to failure with slow, controlled movements and high resistance in a class-based setting. None of our studios have more than 13 machines, so our clients get a very personalized experience from our certified coaches.
MVT CID: Your workout sounds very intense – – how would you guide people in considering whether this is the right fit for their lifestyle and level of fitness?
Erika: Our workout is unlike anything you have ever done before. You will work muscles you didn’t know you had, and experience what it feels like to bring your muscles to failure. We attract clients who are drawn towards intensity. Our clients are motivated to work to their edge and push themselves past their limits every time they come to class. If you don’t like to sweat, [solidcore] may not be for you. Still not sure? Watch our video here: http://vimeo.com/104397397
MVT CID: How do you like Mount Vernon Triangle so far and are there particular aspects of the neighborhood that appeal to you?
Erika: [solidcore] loves Mt. Vernon Triangle. The area is very metro accessible, close to lots of restaurants and entertainment, and is a great location for us for our clients on the Hill. Our Mt. Vernon location draws in a lot of working professionals to who can pop in on their lunch hour for our midday classes or right before/after work.
MVT CID: We always ask – what is your favorite spot to eat in the Triangle?
Erika: I personally love sweetgreen and a good cup of coffee from Chinatown Coffee Company just a few blocks south.
Thank you, Erika!
