Shouk Makes Headlines with Fried Shouk’n & Veggie Burgers

Friday April 9, 2021

Shouk, the plant-based, fast-casual Israeli restaurant located in Mount Vernon Triangle, is once again making headlines while pleasing tastebuds. Because as Shouk believes, nutritious food should not sacrifice taste! Washington City Paper’s recently released list of go-to Springtime sandwiches throughout DC included the Fried Shouk’n. Featuring gigantic breaded oyster mushrooms that stand in for chicken, the delicious pita sandwich is filled with green cabbage, pickles, and spicy harissa mayo.

That’s not all! Washington City Paper also included the Shouk Burger in its round-up of what goes into some of DC’s best veggie burgers, which is relevant to Shouk because of how it approaches the entire food and environmental ecosystem. Once called “the best thing I ever ate!” by celebrity chef Carla Hall, the $12 burger made of flaxseed, legumes, and vegetables – packed into a pita alongside roasted tomato, pickled turnips, and tahini – was named their favorite veggie burger by The Washington Post in 2016.

Shouk’s Mount Vernon Triangle location is open daily from 11am-8pm. You can also order Shouk for delivery through third-party apps.
