You’re Invited! Community Meeting Regarding the Phase One Reactivation of Cobb Park
Wednesday January 22, 2020
On Thursday, January 30, MVT CID’s partners at the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and Department of General Services (DGS) invite you to join them for a community meeting to discuss the phase one reactivation of Cobb Park. The meeting is open to the public but we ask that you please RSVP to assist in preparing for your attendance.
Next Thursday’s meeting comes exactly two years since dozens of you shared ideas on where and how to activate Mount Vernon Triangle open space at our Public Meeting & Planning Workshop—an important community engagement effort that informed much of the information contained in the MVT Open Space Study. It was in the MVT Open Study that Cobb Park – created as an open space parcel 40 years ago as a result of the I-395 Center Leg Freeway extension and used most recently as a construction staging area for the Capitol Crossing project – was identified as a galvanizing, catalytic and imminently achievable proposal for bold “re-imagination” into an iconic open and artistic space, destination and gateway into Mount Vernon Triangle and downtown DC.
What’s more, Cobb Park’s presence and recognition as open space for more than 40 years, combined with capital funding already in the city’s budget specifically intended for the site, best positions this city-owned parcel for immediate near-term use. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and engage the public on how DPR and DGS plan to allocate the available funding to best maximize Cobb Park’s overall benefit to the community.
For more information regarding this effort, check out the MVT CID Update on Parks & Open Space from March 4, 2019 or email info@mvtcid.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
