In Their Own Words: Interview with Nick Longobardi, General Manager of Nicoletta Italian Kitchen and Brew’d

Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing a series of interviews with some of our local business owners on why they chose to become and remain a part of #LifeinMVT. This month, Nick Longobardi, General Manager of both Nicoletta Italian Kitchen and Brew’d tells us about The Altamarea Group’s decision to locate in Mount Vernon Triangle in this edition of “In Their Own Words.”

MVT CID: Nick, tell us about your decision to locate Nicoletta and Brew’d in Mount Vernon Triangle. What attracted you to the neighborhood?

NICK: The Altamarea Group and Chef Michael White were introduced to the Mount Vernon Triangle over a year ago through Robert Spagnoletti, CEO of DC Bar. He was familiar with our restaurants, both Osteria Morini in DC as well as our New York City locations, and started discussing the possibility of bringing one of our concepts to their new building. From there, The Altamarea Group brand development team began spending time in the area, and got to know – and love – it! It reminded them of when we first arrived in Capitol Riverfront. We could just see all the new residents and retail coming to the area, and wanted to be a part of a diverse and burgeoning neighborhood.

MVT CID: You are a MVT resident which definitely gives you great insight on what the neighborhood wants and needs in regards to the restaurant scene. How do you anticipate your restaurant catering to those needs?

NICK: Every neighborhood needs a “local” that can accommodate you, and welcome you regardless of your mood. Nicoletta Italian Kitchen and Brew’d are going to cover your need for a quick morning coffee, a drink after a long day, dinner with a group of friends, a family mid-week night out, and everything in between.

MVT CID: What makes this restaurant unique compared to Osteria Morini in Capitol Riverfront and The Yards, and others within the Morini/Nicoletta umbrella?

NICK: The scale and accessibility of the menu. This is where you can go when you don’t want to make dinner, but also where you can plan to go for a night out with friends. This is truly designed to be enjoyed by our neighbors, frequently. Our menu features favorite and familiar classics, executed with culinary expertise.  House-made pastas, with simple and perfect Pomodoro, a comforting gnocchi al forno, to generously and artisanally topped pizzas, along with a varied menu of entrees ranging from classic parms, to Italian bistecca.

MVT CID: What are your favorite things to do around the neighborhood when you aren’t working?

NICK: Visit our fellow restaurants, bars and shops.  I feel like many of the other restaurant owners and families are truly an extension of my own.

MVT CID: What’s your favorite part about the MVT community?

NICK: The small-town sense of community and familiarity right in the middle of a growing city has definitely become our favorite part of life in MVT.

MVT CID: Anything else you’d like to tell us about Nicoletta/Brew’d or Mount Vernon Triangle?

NICK: We just couldn’t be more excited to be another one of the great offerings to not only enhance the neighborhood for existing residents, but attract new residents and visitors and continue to make Mount Vernon Triangle a DC destination!

Nicoletta Italian Kitchen is located at 901 4th Street NW. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 11:30am-10pm, Friday from 11:30am-11pm, Saturday from 11am-11pm, and Sunday from 11am-10pm.

Brew’d is located at 901 4th Street NW. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 7am-4:30pm, and Saturday-Sunday from 7:30am-4:30pm.
