MVT CID to Host Public Meeting & Planning Workshop for Community Feedback on Parks & Open Space
Tuesday January 30, 2018
WASHINGTON, DC (January 30, 2018) – In response to consistent community feedback regarding the lack of green, open and public-use space in and around the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood, the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVT CID) will engage community stakeholders at a Public Meeting & Planning Workshop on Wednesday, January 31 from 6-8:30pm at Mount Carmel Baptist Church (901 3rd Street NW). The Public Meeting & Planning Workshop is a central component of a more robust Open Space Study effort sponsored by the MVT CID to develop a strategic plan to meet the neighborhood’s open space requirements.
“We believe strongly that parks and open spaces are community assets, and for that reason have designed a process that is intentionally transparent, equitable and inclusive, while also responsive to the interests of our stakeholders and other potential users of these spaces,” said Kenyattah Robinson, President & CEO of the MVT CID. “There is a clear recognition of the tremendous social, economic and quality-of-life benefits associated with proximity to parks and open spaces, which is why our efforts have received the overwhelming support of a broad cross-section of community stakeholders.”
Led by international design, planning and engineering consultancy AECOM and community engagement advisor Robinson Public Affairs, the Public Meeting & Planning Workshop will provide participants with an interactive opportunity to share their priorities, preferences and potential locations for parks and open spaces in Mount Vernon Triangle community. Visits to multiple information stations will provide attendees with information about the history of open space planning in Mount Vernon Triangle; potential uses, users and locations of these spaces; and the community and other stakeholder feedback received thus far. Attendees will brainstorm, engage and interact among others with similar interests and passions in a lightly structured, professionally facilitated and highly inclusive environment—with these activities culminating in a series of considerations and recommendations by the project team.
The Public Meeting & Planning Workshop agenda is as follows:
6:00-7:00pm: Interactive Open House Workshop
7:00-7:15pm: Remarks from Mount Carmel Baptist Church, MVT CID & Study Consulting Team
7:15-8:15pm: Interactive Open House Workshop (Continued)
8:15-8:30pm: Wrap-Up, Summary & Closing Remarks
