(Washington, D.C.) The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District has hired a police officer to patrol Mount Vernon Triangle on Friday and Saturday evenings starting August 3, 2007. In an effort to reduce crime in the area, the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District is partnering with the Metropolitan Police Department by hiring an officer through reimbursable detail.
“We are happy to further assist the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District through reimbursable detail,” says Commander Diane Groomes. “The addition of a dedicated uniformed officer in the evenings is going make this changing neighborhood even safer.”
The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District currently has a Clean Team that sweeps the streets and sidewalks seven hours a day, seven days a week. The addition of a police officer on Friday and Saturday nights is the next step in a series of neighborhood enhancements for the Community Improvement District.
“Residents are already moving into newly completed condos, and new retail shops and services are scheduled to open in Mount Vernon Triangle in the next several months,” states Robert Gladstone, President of the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District. “We believe that adding an additional police officer dedicated to the Triangle will reinforce the exciting trends well under way.”
The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District is a nonprofit organization established to enhance the overall quality of life for residents, visitors, employees, and property owners by providing a clean and safe environment, marketing, and fostering planning and economic development in Mount Vernon Triangle.
The Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District self-taxes residential and commercial properties and is bounded by 7th Street, NW, New York Avenue, NW, New Jersey Avenue, NW, and Massachusetts Avenue, NW.
