National Night Out Brings Together Community Partners, Great Food and Fun!

The MVT CID invites residents, neighbors and visitors to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1 from 6 – 8 PM. The location for this year’s MVT CID event is Milian Park at 5th & Mass. Celebrated in cities throughout the United States and in every police district in Washington, DC, National Night Out generates support for, and participation in, local anti-crime and emergency preparedness programs and strengthens neighborhood spirit. Free, family-friendly activities will include a moon bounce and face painter for the kids; participation by the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander AffairsMetropolitan Police Department’s Asian Liaison Unit, National Park Service and United States Park Police (USPP) including a USPP horse and SWAT vehicle; complimentary refreshments from A Baked Joint, Texas de Brazil and Tropical Smoothie Cafe; and a special Tunes in the Triangle concert featuring funk/soul/R&B artist Zach Cutler.

Join us for an evening of community-building and engagement as you:

  • Meet Hwajung Kim of the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs
  • Explore safety tips and check out an MPD cruiser with officers of the Metropolitan Police Department Asian Liaison Unit
  • Trot on over to meet a police horse and a United States Park Police SWAT Unit
  • Talk about our local parks with National Park Service team members

Enjoy complimentary samples of some of the MVT’s favorite foods, including:

  • A Baked Joint, featuring house made breads with olive oil and homemade jams
  • Tropical Smoothie Café, serving their famous smoothies
  • Fresh hot popcorn from 5th Street Ace Hardware
  • Treats from Texas de Brazil

People of all ages will be delighted to visit with the famous “Golden Mandarin Ducks”, miniature fancy animal creations that are a companion to the Fancy Animal Carnival sculptures by artist Hung Yi that are featured in neighborhoods throughout DC this summer. Join the fun and share your duckling images as part of the hashtag #fancyanimalcarnival campaign!

MVT CID President & CEO, Kenyattah Robinson, spoke to the importance of National Night Out, saying, “The MVT CID is thrilled to once again host National Night Out, bringing together residents, District agencies, first responders and local businesses in a celebration of our community and the strong ties that unite us. Our community partnerships are critically important to the quality of life enjoyed by our residents, office workers and visitors and joining the city and other neighborhoods for this important evening will be not only a strong symbol of our cohesiveness but also great fun for all!”
