Coming Soon to MVT: “Proper Bar”!

Friday July 26, 2024

One could argue that MVT already boasts an impressive lineup of “proper” bars (see herehereherehere or here) but Washington Business Journal announced yesterday that the team behind Proper21 will be bringing a new elevated concept called Proper Bar to the 5,630 square-foot ground-floor retail space at the recently opened CROSBY (300 K Street NW). Set to open in 2025 the concept promises to offer craft cocktails and savory entrees and will be a more elegant concept compared to its sports bar-focused cousin.

According to the article, Proper21 co-owners Will Strozier and Rob Zahn chose Mount Vernon Triangle as the location for their next project because, “it was the chance to think differently” with Strozier saying “Our model has always been to be in the middle of the most dense commercial office districts that we could possibly find, and with that, you get the office crowd for lunch, and then you get a built-in happy hour, and then that kind of fuels the later nights and the weekends. That model doesn’t work as well anymore… Mount Vernon Triangle is a much more residential neighborhood.”

These sentiments echo similar thoughts that Altamerea CEO Ahmass Fakahany shared with Washington Business Journal ahead of the successful Nicoletta Italian Kitchen rebrand into Cucina Morini earlier this year and shows that Mount Vernon Triangle is proving itself as a leading example of what a “new downtown neighborhood” can be.

We are thrilled that another new restaurant concept has chosen to plant its roots here in Mount Vernon Triangle and look forward to bringing more updates as they come!
